The Longaberger Foundation has funded a number of projects honoring those who have served and are serving our country in the Armed Forces. Here are some examples:
Ken Burns The War
To honor World War II veterans, The Longaberger Foundation joined a number of national corporations and foundations to sponsor the PBS television miniseries – Ken Burns The War. From the frontlines to the home front, the history of World War II is recounted through film and interviews with Americans who lived it.
United States Organizations (USO)
This grant supports USO programs in combat areas of the Middle East, including among other services and programs free phone and Internet, arranging for, transporting and delivering care packages, and operating the United Through Reading Program. This program enables military personnel to record themselves reading books to their children. The recordings are then delivered to their families back home.
The Pinnacle Foundation
The purpose of The Pinnacle Foundation grant is to build occupational skills and provide career development services for transitioning wounded veterans and their families. The Pinnacle Foundation has a special focus on profoundly wounded veterans suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury. Occupational and career training has a unique format in which veterans and their spouses or caregivers work as a team to learn job skills and become placed in jobs.
WOSU Public Media
The WOSU/WWII Interviews teamed WOSU, the PBS affiliate in Columbus, Ohio, with Newark City High School (Ohio) students to record and videotape interviews of WWII veterans and their families in Muskingum, Licking and surrounding counties. More than 30 interviews were conducted and will become part of the national collection of stories about WWII.
