A Simple Craft. An American Art.
Only one basket is introduced by the Master’s Studio each year. Basket designers study all types of art and are inspired by cultural references, antique designs, nature and more. The Master’s Studio Spirit Basket is only the eighth design to come from the studio.
The diamond motif on the basket was inspired by the prevalent use of diamonds in Cherokee basketry. The pattern can mean many different things, including the diamond signifying a union. The basket’s weave literally joins the top and bottom halves of the diamond together, and a band of color marks the union.
With a diamond on all four sides and a first-ever polished walnut ring atop the basket, the Spirit Basket is a striking example of the level of artistry found in Longaberger crafters.
